Sermon series: Lent in Plain Sight--"Dust"

Main points

1. The concept of "dust" can have many different points of application during Lent.

2. Dust can be a reminder of our own frailty and mortality

3. In such moments of weakness, we can all the better appreciate our need for God and His strength

4. Dust can also reflect back to moments of suffering or difficult spiritual seasons (the "ash heap"), during which it is critical to stay connected to God through His Word.

5. The Season of Lent invites us to a very different experience that sets us apart from the culture of the world, and thus provides an excellent opportunity for us to share a testimony with others about why we observe these 40 days leading to Easter.

Questions

1. How do you plan to observe Lent this year? With special spiritual sacrifices, or spiritual additions to your life?

2. Do you have a story or testimony about how God has been at work in your life recently that you may be able to share with others during this season?

3. In addition to Scriptural reading and study, are there are other spiritual practices which you have found help you to draw closer to God?
